Introduction to Drawing and Design I (Teacher of Record, Spring and Fall 2009): State University of New York at New Paltz



Still Life Interpretation: 
Introduction to Line Contour, Shade, Proportion and Depth of Space 

Part I- In class gestural drawings emphasizing form, line and contour

Part II- A more controlled approach; utilizing shape as a way of manipulating spacial relationships and compositional elements. One full size 18” x 24” still life with a full range of value, and contrast. Try to reference highlight, shadow, light source and reflection. 

Part III-Focusing on one object, create a composition utilizing repetition and point of view.  Draw this object from different angles and vantage points. Think of relationships between micro and macro, contrast and weigh of impact. Use knowledge gained by in class studies, understanding of compositional elements.
